Storytellers Show. 11.11.11

The Storytellers show opens this week at the Strychnin Gallery, Berlin. New paintings will hang alongside works by Raf Veulemans, Saturno Butto, and Markus Poston.

The exhibition will showcase a series of artworks which inevitably present their beholders with narratives that frequently cause mixed feelings and which are often perceived differently by each individual. In many cases beauty, dismay and curiosity are terms that come up at the same time when the works of these visual storytellers are being discussed.

Interested collectors can now view the pre-sale listing at the Strychnin Gallery website

. MYTHOS .

July 8. 2011 - August 6. 2011

New Paintings by Benjamin A. Vierling
at the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle, Washington.

Exhibition with Madeline von Foerster

Opening reception on Friday, July 8th. 6-9 pm.

Bird with Ring. 8" x 8". Egg tempera & oil on panel. 2011

A myth tells an eternal story, a drama that is timeless because it is always happening. The tradition of classical painting provides forms that reflect these epic human experiences. The painter endeavors to depict the myth as a tangible point for contemplation. In the spirit of this pursuit, Vierling presents 6 unique visions. The structure of these compositions acknowledge centuries of painting, from the Renaissance to the Fin de siècle, but the inspiration comes from the mundane. Real subjects, intimately rendered, provide the foundation of a living Mythos.

Renoir by Vierling

Renoir Family Portrait.

Was a privilege and an honor to be commissioned to paint a portrait of Jhon Renoir and his two children, Renee and Alex. They are the direct descendants of the french impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and the filmmaker, Jean Renoir.

The portrait features the three living Renoirs under the benevolent visage of their illustrious ancestor's autoportrait. The setting is the interior of the Hiroshi House Recording Studios in Grass Valley, California, where Jhon and Alex produce exclusively analog albums for an international roster of music acts.

The painting was executed in egg tempera and oil paint on panel, and measures 32" x 42" (81 cm x 106 cm). It resides in the Renoir collection.
